THE HISTORY OF PRO-VITA

Pro-Vita is a Latin name which when translated means ‘for life’. Appropriate don’t you think, given that Pro-Vita was originally a bread and that today it is still an ideal alternative to bread

Pro-Vita has a heritage that spans over 135 years and is indeed one of South Africa’s iconic brands. For over a century, Pro-Vita has always stood for wholesome goodness and health derived from its natural ingredients. It’s not surprising that even its packaging is still distinctly Pro-Vita, recognisable from the times when Pro-Vita was hand-packed in printed brown paper bags, sealed with cello tape.

The Pro-Vita trade mark was first registered in 1926. Pro-Vita bread had however been in the market since the latter part of the 1800’s, when bread deliveries were made in horse-drawn carriages.

As consistent as Pro-Vita’s promise of wholesome goodness has been through time, there have been some changes along the way. The brand started as Bakers Pro-Vita bread. In the late 1920’s, the brand ventured out of bread into biscuits, with Bakers Pro-Vita crispbread. In fact, the Pro-Vita biscuit device used today dates back to 1966.

In 1983, Bakers LTD acquired 100% of the Premier Group’s biscuits interests, which included Pyotts. With the Pyotts name available, Pro-Vita eventually found its home in Pyotts in 2000. Along with this, the manufacturing plant was moved from Westmead, Durban to its current site, Isando, Johannesburg.

In addition to the Original Crispbread, Pro-Vita’s wholesome goodness can now also be enjoyed in a delicious Multigrain offering.

The need for the packaging to evolve with the times has also been recognized and the new convenient sachet packs in an added value dispenser unit have been added to the Pro-Vita range. These packs offer more convenience and cater for the modern day lifestyle, providing healthy goodness while on the go.

However much things change, you can count on Pro-Vita to remain unchanged into the future with a focus on innovation to meet your modern day needs. Pyotts Pro-Vita is South Africa’s favourite Crispbread and will be for many years to come, because true goodness lasts forever!
